United Faculty & Academic Staff (UFAS), AFT 223, is actively working with our brothers and sisters in the labor movement, including the Teaching Assistants' Association (TAA), AFT 3220, and the American Federation of Teachers, with whom we are affiliated, to stop Governor Scott Walker's radical and extremist attack on the civil rights of Wisconsin public employees to bargain collectively.

On February 16, 2011, UFAS President Jim Molenda issued the following statement: "I am proud to tell Mr. Walker that he is wrong and needs to preserve union rights and to sit down with unions to help solve the budget crisis.  I am proud of the TAA members who are working tirelessly to preserve our right to have viable union.... I will go to the capital and do whatever needs to be done to fight this fight.  I hope that UFAS members who have a furlough day or vacation day to use it by coming to the capital.  Support the TAA. Support union rights.  Support the Democrats in capital.  Support yourselves."
